Solar contractors seeking financing through Sunlight Financial must ensure that their contracts include the following terms:

  4. Maximum of 4% utility rate escalator
  5. 5-year workmanship warranty
  6. Roof leak warranty

5-Year Roof Penetration Warranty: [Your Company Name] warrants Your roof against damage and water infiltration at each roofing penetration made by [Your Company Name] in connection with the installation of the System and the surrounding area of each such penetration (collectively, the “Covered Roof Areas”). [Your Company Name] will repair damage to Your roof and repair or compensate You for actual physical damage to Your property resulting from any water infiltration in the event of failure or defects in the Covered Roof Areas.

Why is this required?

Sunlight requests the removal of specific radius language around roof penetrations because of the potential for issues stemming from roof penetrations outside the specified radius of the penetrations. For example, if water originates at a penetration and collects in a different part of the roof and causes a leak, that leak could be outside the penetration area. We do not require the entire roof to be covered, but do require any leaks due to roof penetrations to be covered, regardless of how near the penetration they occur.
